pfam10030 | DUF2272 | 7.98e-34 | 295 | 444 | 5 | 175 | Uncharacterized protein conserved in bacteria (DUF2272). Members of this family of hypothetical bacterial proteins have no known function. However, given its similarity to the CHAP domain it seems likely that this is an enzyme involved in cleaving peptidoglycan. |

cd00978 | chitosanase_GH46 | 7.77e-17 | 5 | 214 | 1 | 219 | chitosanase belonging to the glycosyl hydrolase 46 family. This family is composed of the chitosanase enzymes which hydrolyzes chitosan, a biopolymer of beta (1,4)-linked-D-glucosamine (GlcN) residues produced by partial or full deacetylation of chitin. Chitosanases play a role in defense against pathogens such as fungi and are found in microorganisms, fungi, viruses, and plants. Microbial chitosanases can be divided into 3 subclasses based on the specificity of the cleavage positions for partial acetylated chitosan. Subclass I chitosanases such as N174 can split GlcN-GlcN and GlcNAc-GlcN linkages, whereas subclass II chitosanases such as Bacillus sp. no. 7-M can cleave only GlcN-GlcN linkages. Subclass III chitosanases such as MH-K1 chitosanase are the most versatile and can split both GlcN-GlcN and GlcN-GlcNAc linkages. |

pfam05257 | CHAP | 1.93e-04 | 313 | 422 | 1 | 83 | CHAP domain. This domain corresponds to an amidase function. Many of these proteins are involved in cell wall metabolism of bacteria. This domain is found at the N-terminus of Escherichia coli gss, where it functions as a glutathionylspermidine amidase EC:3.5.1.78. This domain is found to be the catalytic domain of PlyCA. CHAP is the amidase domain of bifunctional Escherichia coli glutathionylspermidine synthetase/amidase, and it catalyzes the hydrolysis of Gsp (glutathionylspermidine) into glutathione and spermidine. |
