Fucose is a 6-deoxy hexose that can be found in N- and O-linked glycans or glycolipids mammalian, insect and plant cell surface. It is equivalent to 6-deoxy-L-galactose due to the unique L-configuration and the lack of a hydroxyl group on the carbon at the 6-position.
