Glycogen is known as storage polysaccharide existing in animal tissues (e.g., human muscle and liver cells), also found in fungi and bacteria. Basically it is the stored form of glucose to provide energy. The structure of glycogen is built up with glucose units linked linearly by α-1,4 glycosidic bonds, and the branches are linked to the stem chain through α-1,6 glycosidic bonds.
